It was with great sadness that Bearsden Choir learnt of the passing of our former Director of Music, Dr James Hunter (1937-2026). To honour his immense contribution to Bearsden Choir, this concert will be dedicated to his memory.

Bearsden Choir is delighted to showcase the work of two of the most important British composers of the 20th and 21st Century.
The ever popular John Rutter, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, will form the second half of the concert. His Magnificat is a celebratory work that is an outpouring of joy, energy and light.
Alongside this sparkling piece is the more sombre but equally beautiful Dona Nobis Pacem by Vaughan Williams. In this work we are called upon to remember our shared humanity and work for peace. Written in 1936, it feels as though this powerful work and its message have just as much relevance in today’s troubled world.
The choir, conducted by Andrew Nunn, will be joined by the magnificent voices of Soprano Monica McGhee and Baritone Daniel Shelvey, as well as the fabulous the McOpera Ensemble.

Faure and Vivaldi, 4 Stars
IT is telling of the development of Bearsden Choir that chorus director Andrew Nunn is relaxed about repeating repertoire, like the two works in this programme, Vivaldi’s Gloria and the Faure Requiem. Just as significantly, the one new work it has commissioned, Love...
Brahms Requiem, 4 Stars
LAST year’s edition of Scottish Opera’s annual touring show, Opera Highlights, was to have supplied both the soloists for Bearsden Choir’s concert of Brahms’ German Requiem, soprano Monica McGhee and baritone Daniel Shelvey. So when Shelvey called off unwell, it was...
Mozart Requiem, 4 Stars
SATURDAY afternoon belonged to George Swann, it is safe to say, and not just because Mozart and Michael Tippett are no longer with us – nor because the young composer’s peer-group fan club were vociferously present at Glasgow City Halls. The Glasgow University...
Haydn & Mozart, 4 Stars
THE last two years have proved challenging for singers. So it was for the 130-strong Bearsden Choir, a fine and much-expanded amateur choir who have spent the Covid years coming together virtually in solitude, or masked-up and so socially distanced that only half the...
Countdown to Christmas, 4 Stars
A CHOIR that has been so inventive, as well as so careful, during the coronavirus pandemic would always be worth wider appreciation. As events have panned out, Bearsden Choir may also appear to have been blessed with second sight. Taking advantage of what has turned...
