In Memoriam: Dr James Hunter (1937-2026)

It was with great sadness that Bearsden Choir learnt of the passing of our former Director of Music, Dr James Hunter.

To honour his immense contribution to Bearsden Choir, our upcoming End of Season Concert in the Glasgow City Halls on 23rd May will be dedicated to his memory.

James (affectionately known as Jim) was Music Director of Bearsden Choir for almost 30 years, half of the choir’s lifespan.

From performing music to the highest standard and producing engaging concerts in Bearsden, Glasgow and beyond, to providing opportunities for the Choir to perform on TV, radio and with celebrity conductors, Jim provided the foundations for Bearsden Choir to become one of Scotland’s top amateur choirs.

We hope that the stunning concert repertoire of Vaughan Williams’ glorious ‘Dona Nobis Pacem’ and the uplifting music of John Rutter’s ‘Magnificat’ will be a fitting tribute to Jim and celebrate his contribution to Bearsden Choir.
